What is a baseball cap?

A baseball cap is a kind of hat which is popular in every age group, because there are all different kinds. It has a soft cap wih a rounded crown with a button on top and a hard base in front. The front of the cap has mostly designs or for example logos of sports teams. Traditionally the baseball cap is part of the baseball unifom, because so the players can protect themselves from the sun. But, today the baseball cap is often seen in everyday casual wear and has become a style element.

Variations of baseball caps

One of the biggest reasons why baseball caps are so popular, is because they are made of many types of material and shapes in vaious styles. As mentioned before, all of the major and minor league baseball players wear the classical-style baseball caps with their teams' logos and colors. In the past, baseball caps were only made in standard hat sizes. But since 1980, they are produced in a one-size-fits-all form with an adjustable strap on the back. This style, which is also called „snapback“ has become popular as a fashion accessory. Anoher style of the baseball cap is the „trucker cap“ or „gimme cap“. This style includes a plastic mesh cap with a foam front imprined with a company logo or other design element.

Why not to wash a baseball cap in the washer?

If people think of washing clothes the first thing that comes to their mind willl be the washer. But before you decide to wash your baseball cap in the washer, think of these three key issues:

Washing can alter the shape of a baseball cap The washer is not suited for washing a baseball cap. Because if you wash your baseball cap in the washer, there will be to much action in it which could lead to a deformation of your baseball cap. The result of washing your baseball cap in a washer would be a baseball cap with ruined shape. And you don’t want that to happen, right?

Washing may shrink a baseball cap. The washer usually uses hot water to clean all sorts of textiles. Although you can choose the water temperature, it could be too hot for washing a baseball cap. Mostly the lowest temperatue for washing is 30 °C (cold). For some materials even this is too hot. So some baseball caps could shrink because of the water in your washer.

Washing can ruin the brim on a baseball cap The hot water and the action in the washing machine could lead to ruining the brim on a baseball cap. So, because of these three key issues you shouldn't wash your baseball cap in he washer. There are different methods for washing a baseball cap. Below there are two selected methods.

Method 1 The fist method is a very easy and fast method to wash your baseball cap. To have a super clean baseball cap you need detergent (dry), wire shaker ball (optional), large plastic food container (the baseball cap has to fit in), towel, balloon and warm water

Place the dirty baseball cap in the large plastic food container.

Then put all the other ingredients such as 1 tablespoon detergent, the shaker ball, and enough warm water (the baseball cap has to be covered at least half).

Now you have to shake the container. Please make sure that the container is well closed.

Open the container and remove the water and repeat shaking with new clean water until the water comes out clean.

Inflate the balloon to match a head.

Put the baseball cap on the balloon and let it dry on a towel in a warm place.

Method 2 For the second method you need a lavatory, cold water, a cup of detergent and an old toothbrush.

Put in the stopper of the lavatory and fill it about half with cold water. Add the detergent while the water runs.

Now take your baseball cap and pre-treat the dirty parts of it with detergent before. Then put in the baseball cap into the detergent-water and brush off the dirty parts with the toothbrush until the baseball cap omes out clean.

Take out the stopper now and let the water run out. In the meantime wash the baseball cap with running cold water.

Finally dry the baseball cap wih a towel and fill the cap with a dry towel. This way the cap can dry without losing shape.
